About the founder
Hey.
I'm Dr. Shay.
I'm a dual-certified Nurse Practitioner, published author, publishing strategist, and founder of Scrubs & Scripts™.
But before I ever became a nurse, I was a writer.
My love for writing started in the second grade with short stories and continued with poetry in middle school. When I became a nurse, writing followed me into healthcare. While earning my MSN degree, I started a women's health blog — taking what I was learning and translating it into information women could actually understand and use.
I didn't know it then, but I was already doing the work that would eventually become the foundation of Scrubs & Scripts™: turning clinical knowledge into something that could educate, empower, and reach people beyond the exam room.
Years later, I published What Type of Nurse Can I Be? Exploring Nursing Careers from A to Z, a children's book created to introduce children to the possibilities within nursing while increasing representation in children's literature.
Then I founded Muriel's House, a publishing company created to help aspiring authors turn their ideas into published books. We worked with professionals across industries, but I kept finding myself especially drawn to nurses. I understood their ideas because I understood their work.
And I began noticing something.
Nurses aren't short on ideas. We're sitting on them.
They're in the patient education handouts we created because the existing ones weren't good enough. The framework we developed to solve a recurring problem. The presentation everyone keeps asking us to share. The training we've taught a hundred times. The journal concept scribbled in our Notes app. The children's book we've been thinking about for three years.
Those aren't just ideas.
They're intellectual property waiting to be developed.
And too many nurses are waiting for someone else to tell them they're qualified to create it.
We spend our careers earning credentials, completing competencies, obtaining approvals, following protocols, and checking boxes. That structure serves an important purpose in clinical practice — but your creativity doesn't require a permission slip.
You don't need another certification before you can write the book.
You don't need another degree before you can teach what you've learned.
And you don't need someone else's title before you can build something with your own name on it.
That's why I created Scrubs & Scripts™ — a publishing company built by a nurse, for nurses.
We help nursing professionals turn their expertise, experiences, and ideas into books, workbooks, journals, card decks, educational resources, and other intellectual property that can educate others, expand their impact, create opportunities, and generate income.
You've already earned the expertise.
Now give yourself permission to do something with it.
Flip the Script. Shift the Narrative.
